The International Bar Association’s Human Rights Institute (IBAHRI) is celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) by urging governments, organizations, and people worldwide to turn the principles of this declaration into real actions.

IBAHRI describes the UDHR as a valuable guide for fairness and justice. It’s like a map showing the values that modern societies should follow. Many consider it the most important legal document of our time.

However, IBAHRI is concerned that in recent years, some countries have become more authoritarian and less protective of human rights, especially for women and children who are suffering the most.

They mention that despite some progress, sexual violence against women remains a significant issue. This violence is still happening in various parts of the world, even in recent conflicts in places like Israel, Sudan, and Ukraine. Women and girls, and sometimes men and boys too, experience terrible abuse during these times, leaving them deeply traumatized.

IBAHRI emphasizes that during wars, human rights are needed more than ever.

They call for action to protect the rights and dignity of every person and to uphold international laws and principles. The message is clear: Let’s work together to make sure that human rights aren’t just ideals but a solid reality for everyone in the future.
